Dua before salam — forgive my past and future sins

Allāhumma ghfir lī mā qaddamtu wa mā akhkhart, wa mā asrartu wa mā a‘lant, wa mā asraft, wa mā anta a‘lamu bihi minnī. Anta l-muqaddimu wa anta l-mu’akhkhiru lā ilāha illā ant.

Translation

O Allah, forgive me what I have done before and what I shall do later, what I have concealed and what I have done openly, where I have been excessive, and what You know better than I. You are the One who brings forward and You are the One who puts back; none has the right to be worshipped except You.

When to recite

In prayer, after the final tashahhud and before the closing salam.

Footnote

Meaning of Al-Muqaddim and Al-Mu-akhkhir: Allah puts forward and favours whom He wills from amongst His creation just as He defers and holds back whom He wills in accordance with His wisdom. E.g. Favouring man over the rest of creation, favouring the Prophets over the rest of mankind, favouring Muhammad over all the Prophets and Messengers…etc.
